Kick off the year with 2025's new Tuesday on the Fly theme, focusing on restoration—both historical and ecological. The year begins with a fascinating dive into local history! Join CU Maurice River for a special tour of the Mauricetown Historical Society to explore the preservation and restoration efforts aimed at maintaining the town's rich heritage. Bob Moore from the Historical Society will guide us through the work they do to keep Mauricetown’s history alive.
In addition, there will be a unique opportunity to visit a local historic home that has been carefully restored. Learn what it’s like to live in a house that’s over a century old and discover the challenges and rewards of maintaining a piece of history.
Mauricetown is one of the many locations of cultural and historic importance within the Wild and Scenic designated river corridor. Historically it was a center for the coastal trade and shipbuilding and the home of many sea captains who sailed up and down the east coast of the US. It is noted for its Italianate and neo-Gothic architecture and its towering white church steeple built to be visible at the mouth of the Maurice River to act as a guide to mariners entering there.
