Citizens United to Protect The Maurice River - Membership Meeting and Presentation / 3-12-25
Join CU Maurice River at its next Membership Meeting on Wednesday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. to learn about upcoming opportunities to get involved and out-of-doors. This gathering is public and will be held at John Boggs Hall in Port Elizabeth. Afterward, stay on for a presentation about migratory fish of the Maurice River watershed by Dr. David Keller, Fisheries Scientist from Drexel University's Academy of Natural Sciences.
Dr. Keller has over 20 years of experience in fisheries science and has been with the Academy since 2004. He is responsible for overseeing projects, staff, and field and laboratory research. His research has focused on restoration and conservation of game and non-game fishes, species of conservation concern, impacts and management of invasive species, and understanding human impacts such as land use change, dams, and emerging contaminants.
In addition to a discussion of migratory fish species, Dr. Keller will inform us on his research of the ironcolor shiner (Notropis chalybaeus), a tiny minnow species recently added to the state endangered list. He will also talk on threats posed by the northern snakehead (Channa argus), an invasive species from Asia first discovered in Maryland in 2002 and has now been found in the Lower Delaware River basin.Date and Time
