Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River - Volunteer Spring Clean Up / 3-1-25
In 2016 CU Maurice River was awarded a grant from the Holly City Development Corporation to install a garden on a vacant lot. After the selection of the space on 3rd Street, hundreds of native plants were installed, some donated by Flora for Fauna and Clemenson Farms, and others purchased from the NJ Tree Foundation. Dunrite provided woodchips for the pathways, Inspira offered lots of cardboard for weed suppression, AcuPrint shared their graphic expertise, and Northeast Precast handled benches and installation. After countless hours of volunteer work to prepare the gardens, the Neighborhood Wildlife Garden was officially opened in May 2019.
While urban wildlife gardens provide pollinators, songbirds, and other animals with refuge, they also revitalize communities by offering neighbors a healthy place to reconnect with nature and with other people by improving visual aesthetics, deepening their understanding of their local ecology, and adding a public area for beneficial outdoor activities.
Join CU Maurice River for its first garden volunteer workgroup of the year at the Neighborhood Wildlife Garden for a soon-to-be-spring cleanup. The likely tasks for the day will include fixing the pergola and fence, scrubbing down benches, moving any fallen limbs, and laying down more wood chips.
