Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River-Volunteer Workgroup: Trash Hunt at Union Lake / 3-29-25

Join CU Maurice River on Saturday, March 29, for the 33rd Annual Cumberland County Trash Hunt sponsored by the Cumberland County Clean Communities Program. Since its inception in 1992, over 930 tons of trash have been collected through the annual Trash Hunt from the 75,000 acres of Cumberland County, especially from game preserves, wildlife management areas, and other public lands. For this year's event, CU Maurice River is partnering with local Wawa staff members to clean up a forested property owned by Wawa, Inc., on the southeast side of Union Lake.
 
In 2021, Keep America Beautiful released the largest litter study in America, which tracked litter from 2009-2020. The good news is the study found a 54% reduction in litter from roadways since 2009. The bad news is that waterways fared slightly worse and had more litter than roadways. Thank you to everyone who has come to past cleanups and helped contribute to the reduction of litter in the environment.
