This year, CU Maurice River is excited to continue its What It’s Like to Be a Bird series, featuring new bird species and a few new leaders. The season kicks off with a focus on winter backyard birds, led by CU Naturalist Mary Watkins. Meet at the newly renovated Millville Public Library for a deeper look at the birds you see every day—whether in your own backyard or around town. Mary will help you discover fascinating details about these familiar species that you may not have known before. It’s the perfect way to start the year, connect with fellow bird enthusiasts, and learn more about the birds that share our world.

And join CU Maurice River for its 4th Saturday Bird Walk to take a closer look at backyard birds, which complements our What It’s Like to Be a Backyard Bird class. This walk will explore the WheatonArts Circle Garden, where we’ll observe the vital role that gardens play as food sources for wintering birds. We’ll also spend time at feeders, identifying species that rely on these resources during the colder months, and enjoy a peaceful walk along the nature trail. It’s a great opportunity to connect with nature, learn more about local birdlife, and deepen your understanding of how our backyard environments support these fascinating creatures.
