Citizens United to Protect The Maurice River - What It's Like To Be A Woodpecker / Class 3-18-25 and Outing 3-22-25
CLASS: Join CMBO’s Adehl Schwaderer for an engaging class that dives into the fascinating world of woodpeckers. What exactly makes a bird a woodpecker? Which species are you likely to spot locally? What sets them apart from other birds? This session, held at the Vineland Public Library, will explore the unique characteristics and behaviors of woodpeckers.
Whether you're a birdwatching beginner or a seasoned enthusiast, you'll walk away with a deeper understanding of these remarkable birds and the role they play in our local ecosystems.
Those attending may want to bring note-taking supplies. As the talk runs through usual dinner hours, participants are invited to bring a snack to share.
OUTING: Join CU Maurice River for the 4th Saturday Bird Walk, which is designed to complement the woodpecker class. During this walk at Peek Preserve, you’ll explore the habitat in search of woodpeckers, and learn how to spot clues of their presence.
South Jersey, located along the Atlantic Flyway, plays a crucial role as stopover habitat for migrating birds like yellow-bellied sapsuckers, as well as providing year-round food and shelter for species such as downy and hairy woodpeckers. During the walk, you will take the opportunity to observe other wildlife in the area and appreciate the early signs of spring.
Dress weather-appropriate and don't forget your binoculars! Bringing drinking water and a snack is encouraged.
