Citizens United to Protect The Maurice River - Winter Tree ID: Bark, Twigs & Buds with Dr. Matt Olson / 12/16/24

On Monday, December 16, join CU Maurice River for a Winter Tree ID walk with Stockton University Professor and dendrologist Dr. Matthew Olson, who will teach participants to identity trees by their characteristic bark, twigs, and buds.

This walk was postponed from November 2nd at Bear Swamp due to a wildfire that was occurring there at the time. It is tentatively planned to be held at Bear Swamp, depending on the assessment of the trail conditions post wildfire.

The walk is a follow-up to the October 29th Fall Flora Class in which attendees learned how to identify trees after leaf fall based on their twigs. This walk will expand on what was taught in that class.

Everyone is welcome to join whether you participated in the class or not. Space is limited so don't delay in signing up!

Be sure to dress for the weather and it is recommended that you bring drinking water and wear waterproof footwear as it can be damp in Bear Swamp.  Bring your hand lens if you have one; only a limited number of hand lenses are available to lend out.  Books that may be used during the outing: Tree Finder by May Watts (used in the Fall Flora class) and Bark by Michael Wojtech.
